Asia Argento is an Italian actress and filmmaker who was born into a large family of both. She's taken on these two professions her own. Sogni e bisogni, directed by Sergio Citti and starring Asia Argento at the age of nine, was her very first film. She played the leading role in the film of Cristina Comencini's Zoo (1988) and appeared in Michele Soavi's 1989 movie The Church. In 1989 she portrayed Nanni Moretti's baby in Red Wood Pigeon. (Also directed by Moretti). The film Close Friends (1992), written and directed by Michele Placido, that Asia's career really took off and she was able to transition from portraying very young girls into larger, more sophisticated role. The film was a hit during the Cannes International Film Festival. She's made three films along with her father, Trauma, The Stendhal syndrome, and Phantom of Opera. The Phantom of the Opera will be her third film alongside her father, with her first two movies being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's focused and intense style of acting has also been used by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot as well. She also had a role as a physically disabled girl in the film. In 1995, her collaboration alongside Michel Piccoli, in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion won her yet another David di Donatello award as well as Grolla of Oro. Asia began directing in 1994 when she made two short films: Prospettive (1996), a document on her father and her mother, as well as Abel/Asia (1998) Abel/Asia, a feature on the legendary filmmaker Abel Ferrara. The latter was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia's first feature length film debut is Scarlet Diva (2000) in 1999, where she also acted as the lead actress as well as wrote the screenplay. The film came out in May 2000 in Italy and the rest of the world. In Brooklyn, New York it won a award at the Williamsburg film festival. Anna Lou was her first born daughter in 2001. After directing several music videos she had Anna Lou. The year 2002 saw Asia appear as Jean-Marc Bar's co-star The Red Siren (Olivier Megaton) as well as Vin Diesel was the star of Rob Cohen's thriller action The Action. Asia is also the author of a number of short stories, which were published in top magazines.
